Founded by the villagers in 1575, it is considered the primary church of all parishes in the southeast of Tenerife. It houses a rich artistic heritage. The image of St Anne, patron saint of the municipality, was carved by the sculptor Miguel Bermejo in the 18th century. However, the image of Cristo Crucificado (crucified Christ) or Cristo de la Expiración (Christ of the Expiration), dates back to the 17th century. It stands out for its great dramatic quality and purest Baroque style. Great devotion is also paid to the Virgin of Carmen, protector of fishermen.
St. Anne’s Church is the urban counterpoint to the Basilica. The church predominates over an amphitheater of rather popular buildings that form the backdrop to the square Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias. It has undergone several modifications and extensions since it was founded by the villagers in 1575.
